WHAT'S INSIDE

Built in, not bolted on

  • A01

    Our own blade design

Hooked cutters on one or two shafts tear food waste into even 5–10 mm pieces.

  • A02

    Vertical feed

Waste drops straight down onto the cutters, so it shreds quickly without being pushed hard.

  • A03

    Crate bay underneath

Shreds fall into a crate in the open bay at the bottom. Slide it out and carry it to the composter.

  • A04

    Quiet and light

A stainless cabinet on castors that moves easily and keeps running costs low.

  • A05

    Segregation table option

Add a stainless tray table beside the hopper to pick out plastic and metal before anything is shredded.

QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED

Shredder questions

What size pieces does the shredder make?

It cuts food waste into even pieces of 5 to 10 mm. Waste drops straight down a vertical feed onto hooked cutters on one or two shafts, and the shreds fall into a crate in the bay underneath. You slide the crate out and carry it to the composter, because small pieces compost fast.

Should I choose a single shaft or a dual shaft shredder?

Both cut to 5 to 10 mm, and the choice depends on your waste. The page lists four single shaft models (IMB50S to IMB1000S) and four dual shaft models (IMB50D to IMB1000D). Dual shaft models carry more blades and weigh more. Tell us your daily waste and we will recommend a model.

How much waste can I feed it at a time?

Feed about 5 kg at a time, slowly, and wait for the hopper to clear before adding more. Tipping in a whole tray clogs it. Each model takes pieces up to 75 to 150 mm, so break up whole coconuts, big bones and thick stems first. If it jams, press reverse and run it forward again.

What must not go into the shredder?

Plastic, glass and metal must not go in, because they jam the blades. Pick them out on the segregation table first, so only food waste reaches the hopper. Also take out hard things such as big bones, whole coconuts and thick stems, or break them up before feeding.

How much power does a shredder need?

The motors range from 2 to 7.5 HP across the eight models. The IMB50 models use 2 HP, the IMB100 models 3 HP, the IMB500 models 5 HP and the IMB1000 models 7.5 HP, in both single and dual shaft versions. The specification tables on this page list the weight and blade count of each.

How do I clean the shredder, and who changes the blades?

After every batch, switch off and unplug it, then pour water over the blades while they are still wet so waste does not dry and stick. Remove stuck waste with the scraper tool, never your hands. Only our technicians change blades, so call us if they are blunt or damaged.

What is the difference between a shredder and a composter?

A shredder cuts food waste into small pieces, and a composter turns it into compost. Innovus sells shredders on their own, for example to municipal waste sheds, and together with composters. In a full setup the waste is sorted on the segregation table, shredded, then composted in 18 to 24 hours, depending on the model.

What comes with the shredder?

The order includes transport, installation and commissioning, staff training, a complete tool set at handover, and a 2-year warranty with complete spares. The shredder is a stainless steel cabinet on castors, so it moves easily. An annual maintenance contract (AMC) is available once the warranty ends.
